Ia Orana Bora Bora!

It's been long since I have paid attention to my beloved blog. I have a good excuse. A while ago I mentioned that my husband and I were planning a trip, so all the time I was absent from the internet noise was because I was planning our trip to Bora Bora, traveling to Bora Bora, and coming back from Bora Bora.

I am oh-so-sad to be writing this post today because it means our trip is in the past -we are back home; but i am oh-so-happy we were able to have this experience.

One Bite

A while ago we spotted this "new kid" on the block of japanese restaurants on one of our many trips to/from our dentist office . We even mentioned a few times that we wanted to try it since it was so close to our house and we like sushi so much. However, it was one of those places we never remembered -not even the name- unless we drove by it.

Out of the blue, a couple of months ago the Groupon of the day was for a japanese-tapas restaurant, we bought it intrigued by this new concept since we had never been to one that wasn't spanish tapas before. Little did we know it was the same place, we realized it the moment we were turning up the street, partly because, as I mentioned before, we didn't remember the name and partly because the directions and address given by Groupon were taking us to Quivera St instead of Antioch St.

Room 39

This “Seasonal American” restaurant, as described on their website, shows pride in using local ingredients to provide the best flavors on your plate. I have to agree with them, loved pretty much everything I had.

Mr. Mather and I celebrated our birthdays here with the 4 course meal they recommend for first timers. You get soup or salad, one half appetizer, one half entree and one half dessert. My husband opted for soup and salad and skipped dessert (knowing Paciugo would be on our way home, of course). How to even begin to describe the food.

It's all because of the food.

Oh, my lonely and forgotten blog. I haven't been good with the updates lately, although I have been busy, it hasn't been entirely because of that. I have to say that the increasing frustration with my internet provider and the constant let-ME-try-to-type attitude from Ursula, my cat, have some to do with it, but most importantly I blame it on the food.

Road Trip: Colorado Springs/Norris Wedding.

A little over a month ago Chris received a call from our friend Nash to tell him that his summer wedding had been moved to march. Location was also moved, it would no longer be in Texas but in Colorado. We wouldn't have missed it for the world -of course- but it was too late to find good airfares; we went for the more wallet-friendly option and made it a road trip.

Affogato Sunday

It's 10:28 PM on the first 'daylight savings' night before a new work week starts and although many say that one hour doesn't affect them and it is easy to adjust to the transition (Mr. Mather being one of them, he is completely passed out right next to me), it's not true in my case. My brain still thinks it's 9:28 PM, code for -too early to sleep.

The Beetle

Two things come to my mind when I think of a volkswagen Beettle: the unique noise they make when you start them and my amazing uncle Nano (his name is Hugo, Nano was the nickname my sisters and I gave him when we were kids, don't ask why).

I can't say the Beetle I painted is after my uncle's; for starters his is white, also, he bought his in 1979, brand new, which means the years wouldn't match. However, I do have to thank my uncle for the love I have for these cars. In a sense, they both share the same personality -one of a kind, cool like no other and you can't help but smile when you look at them.

Burning Forest

Remember how part of the plan I had for the next months was to reconnect with brushes and colors? Some progress has been made towards this project.

In the past week I have painted a couple of things. Here is the first one.

I have named it “Burning Forest”. Mainly because I feel that if I want to exhibit my work eventually I am supposed to give each painting a name or something to recognize them by.

So here is the first of, I hope, many more.

Incorrect use of spanglish.

I understand that this country is filled with many cultures and languages, and spanish seems to be the “it” language at this moment, what can I say, latin is in right now.

Things to think about (and work on).

The coming 16 months look pretty challenging these days. Chris' (that's my husband) decision to go back to school will bring a lot of changes to the way life runs at the moment. By August next year, he will be going to school full time which means that his full time job -and salary- will be out of the picture for a while.

The Beginning

Time does not change us. It just unfolds us.
Max Frisch

Seasons. This is something I didn't fully understand until a few years ago when I came to live in the US. I grew up in a city (wonderful city, I must say) where extreme temperatures don't exist; life there is better described as linear rather than cyclic. Cycles make me think of re-starting points.
